Has it hit the water?

There are two types of places that sell propellers. The first allows you to exchange the prop if the pitch is off so you can match your engine rpm to the prop. This is what a professional establishment does. The second type doesn't allow exchanges on propeller boat mismatches. They are the type that believe that they can know every engine/hull/propeller combination because its just such an exact science. This company is the latter. The original prop was a Solas 4 blade 11.8x9. I ordered a Michigan Wheel 11.5x8. The original rpm went from 3900 to an even lower 3800. Clearly too high a pitch yet it was the lowest pitch 4 blade prop for that motor available and lower than the original prop. I simply wanted to exchange it to a 3 blade 12.2x7 Solas hoping to get higher rpm. I was happy to pay a restocking fee.The person on the phone asked, has it hit the water? Well you can't exchange it then. Stick to reputable places, where people understand boats and boaters. Or lie when they ask...
